Rainbow Day’s CBSG Program Facilitator Training

There will be a 1 hour break for lunch on your own.

Kids’ Connection, Youth Connection, and Kids’ Connection, Too (collectively known as the CBSG® Program) are unique, interactive, multi-cultural curriculum-based prevention interventions that teach high-risk children and youth ages 4-17 a set of essential life skills: skills to help them learn how to cope with difficult family situations (which include Adverse Childhood Experiences), resist negative peer pressure, set and achieve goals, and refuse alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. 

This training is designed to fully prepare schools, community-based organizations, churches, juvenile justice divisions, volunteers, and other youth service professionals to fully implement the CBSG Program with fidelity.  Those completing this training will receive their choice one of the CBSG Program Facilitator manuals for Schools and Communities, either Kids’ Connection for ages 4-12 or Youth Connection for ages 10-17.

This training is open to any individual or program interested inimplementing a CBSG® Program.

Take Care! A Guide to Stress Management

Those of us in the human services family all know that in the face of life’s stresses and adversities, children and youth can learn to develop mediating, protective strategies to cope. But what about us - me and you?  We face stress and adversity as part of our regular work experience and our personal lives.  What do we do in the face of this adversity? In this workshop participants will explore ways to take better care of themselves, discuss obstacles to self-care, and leave with a game plan of self-care.

What Does it Take to Strengthen Families?

In this workshop participants will learn what strong families need, and what protective factors, family assets, and approaches make up strong families as seen in a variety of research studies. Time will also be spent learning strategies and activities known to foster protective factors and resilience in children and youth which will be an asset to assist the participant’s own families and the families they serve.

Kids’ Connection, Too is an innovative, award winning program developed by Rainbow Days, Inc. to serve children living with their parents in shelters or other transitional housing situations.  This program can also be beneficial to children who have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Classroom Management

This 3-hour workshop includes an overview of classroom management techniques and strategies; key information gathered from certified classroom educators; diversionary discipline interventions that empower students and model problem solving; and ways to balance respect, motivation and discipline. The process will be a mix of information and informal practice. Participants will be able to: (1) understand the key behaviors for facilitators; (2) understand that youth’s behaviors are a symptom of something going on in their lives; (3) understand the ACE Study, and its effects on behavior; (4) understand and utilize principles of how to de-escalate hot topics.

Art of Facilitation

In this 3-hour workshop, participants will be given the opportunity to explore their personal facilitation skills, identify areas that need enhancement, and even acquire new skills. Participants will be able to: (1) understand the core components of a facilitator’s job; (2) understand and utilize the Six Learning Principles from Sharon Bowman’s book Using Brain Science to Make Teaching Stick; (3) write a work-related mission statement to help them continue to be effective facilitators.
